If you wish to direct a domain that you have to another domain or subdomain, the best way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being redirected loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain it is pointed to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be directed to the site that you've created, but it'll also be displayed in the web browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all the visitors from various subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain since this type of a record created for the main domain address renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Web Hosting

You can easily create CNAME records if you have a Linux web hosting package through our company. We will supply you with an easy-to-use Control Panel that enables you to see all DNS records for the domain addresses and subdomains that are hosted inside the account. Setting up a CNAME record involves a few easy steps - choose the domain/subdomain, choose CNAME as the type, type in the hostname you are pointing to, and then simply click on the Save button. The procedure is as easy as that and the new record is going to be active almost immediately. In this way, you'll have more control over your domains and subdomains and over the content they open, you'll be able to create a private URL for company e-mails, and a lot more. If you feel unclear about how to set up a new record or you have never done such a task, you will find a short video tutorial where you could see the whole process first-hand. If you decide to edit or delete an existing CNAME record created for a domain/subdomain hosted on our end, it will take you literally just a mouse click to do it.
